Hannah Kramer: Terima kasih!
Hi, my name is Hannah Kramer. In a few months I will finish my medical study in Leiden. As a part of my study I wanted to go abroad. Indonesia is a beautiful country with many differences. It has rich people and very nice (private) hospitals, but they are rare compared with the many poor people who won’t go to a doctor because it is too expensive. That is why I liked to join the FcP and give the people with low income a change to be
screened for cervical cancer. It was shocking to find out cervical cancer is the number one cause of death in Indonesia. During my internship in different hospitals in Bandung I saw many patients with a stage III or IV cervix carcinoma, they never had a change to be screened in an early stage. Women in Indonesia are very shy. They are scared when they take a seat in the examination room, but with a lot of patience and good explanation the women were screened carefully. When the women left the team was overloaded with: ‘Terimakasih, Terimakasih banyak!’I hope the FcP will find enough funding to proceed this wonderful program.
