The current situation
In recent years various peptide vaccines have been developed and tested for their effectiveness on laboratory animals. One type of vaccine has been tested on humans for safety, and no toxic side effects were found. Meanwhile, one is extremely hopeful about being able to test the effectiveness of a vaccine against one of the HPV types on humans soon. In animal testing it soon has been shown that the vaccine can protect against cervical cancer. research staff are hopeful because the immune system of many women destroys the HPV infected cells in the cervix before they become cancer cells.
This proves that the body has a certain natural resistance against HPV infection. All that the vaccine needs to do is to specifically boost this resistance. So far, all laboratory experiments have indicated that this is possible, but the ultimate test is of course whether it works in humans. What is needed more than anything now is more funding to complete this work
